Our Baptismal program assists parents who are registered parishioners in preparing their children for the Sacrament of Baptism. Parents who would like their child baptized should contact Julie Cohn at the parish office to arrange for a meeting. Baptismal meetings are scheduled once a month. Not a parishioner yet? Pick up a Welcome Packet from the parish office.
Our Sacramental Preparation programs are designed to support families, teens, and children in celebrating their life in God. Sacramental preparation "takes place with the community and involves the whole community of faith" (NDC, 79-B). This means that children will learn about the Sacraments in Faith Formation or in Catholic school and then we prepare them to celebrate the Sacraments as a parish community. Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation are separate programs. Per diocesan and parish policies, we ask that all families seeking these Sacraments:
-participate in Faith Formation or Catholic school the year before Sacramental Preparation
-enroll and participate in Faith Formation or Catholic school this year
-register with St. Rita Church
First Reconciliation is celebrated in grade 2 or above, prior to First Eucharist. Children must be enrolled in and attend Faith Formation classes or be enrolled in a Catholic school. Preparation begins in the fall.
First Eucharist is celebrated in grade 2 or above, after First Reconciliation. Children must be enrolled in and attend Faith Formation classes or be enrolled in a Catholic school. Preparation begins in the spring.
Children in Grade 8 or above are eligible to begin the 2-year program for Confirmation. This program covers the required 2 years of faith formation and ends with preparation to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. Preparation begins in September. Confirmation is celebrated at Sacred Heart Cathedral in the spring.
For more information about First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, or Confirmation, contact Anne Thomas.
The Eucharist and Sacramental Anointing are available to the homebound and those in need. Please make arrangements by contacting the Parish Office.
Arrangements for Marriage must be made at least six months in advance. Please contact the Parish Office to arrange for a meetings with a priest or deacon. Couples marrying in the Diocese of Rochester take the Fully Engaged inventory during their marriage preparation time, usually six months to a year before the wedding. Fully Engaged is an inventory designed to help engaged couples solidify the foundation upon which they, together with Christ, will build their Sacrament of Marriage. Grounded in Church teaching and loaded with catechetical content, this dynamic premarital inventory is a trustworthy guide that meets the real challenges today’s couples face.
Engaged couples should register for a Marriage Preparation class offered by the Diocese. Click here for information about our sessions here at St. Rita.
